About West Balcatta Primary School

West Balcatta Primary School opened in 1977 and is located in the northern suburbs, approximately 13 kilometres from the Perth CBD, catering for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The school became an Independent Public School in 2019 and is dedicated to providing a positive educational experience that supports the academic, social, emotional and behavioural needs of all students. This was acknowledged in winning the prestigious ‘WA Primary School of the Year’ award in 2012. The school embraces cultural diversity with languages from many countries spoken in the homes of students. The parent body is comprised of families from numerous cultures.

Classrooms reflect a comfortable learning environment and feature excellent facilities including interactive whiteboards and wireless internet access. Year 5&6 ‘Bring your own Device’ program has been implemented to enhance teaching and learning with Digital Technology. The school boasts a computer laboratory with 32 computers, Languages Room and purpose-built Music Room, Science & Visual Arts Room and Assembly Area. The school has had a total library upgrade which became fully operational in 2016. The school also boasts engaging Nature Play areas, features Noongar 6 Seasons Gardens and a Bush Tucker Garden, and incorporates Wet Weather Play and Loose Parts Play throughout the school.

Our committed staff are professional, approachable and dedicated to fostering a collaborative school culture. The school has a Principal, two Deputy Principals and one Level 3 Teacher. Numerous teachers have attained Senior Teacher status and staff members embrace leadership opportunities within the school. Additional support is provided by a Learning Support Coordinator and a service agreement has been signed with the West Coast Language Development Centre. A School Chaplain supports the school's Pastoral Care and Values programs and includes EdConnect, a school volunteer program.

Cooperative partnerships between families, staff and students are the foundations on which the school is built. It is strengthened by parent participation in their children's education, which is actively encouraged.
